My 30gb video iPod has 27.8 GB of audio capacity(2.2 GB are used for the operating system). So then on average each mp3 or music file is about 3.5MB. This would equal about 7942. If you use better quality audio(I.E. Higher Bit rate) your files will be bigger and this number will drop.

On my IPOD I can only get about 5900 songs because I have 2 Music Videos and one 30 minute Paris Hilton "music" video. So it looks like the math is close. Its been enough portable music for me for the last 5 years.

Assuming that the encoding of the MP3 is 128kbps, then work on the average of 1 minute of music = 1MB. Therefore, a 4 minute song will be 4MB. You get 250 songs per GB, so 30 GB will hold approx. 7500 songs with an average length each of 4 minutes.

Do you mean how many songs can a thirty gigabyte mp3 player hold? If so it varies. Some things to keep in mind are how long the song is, how rich the sound is or perhaps the format that it is in. These are all key to understanding how many songs your thirty gigabyte mp3 player can hold. Most people seem to agree that ~7500 songs is equal to thirty gigs.

it really depends on what format the songs are in, and how long the songs are. If I remember correctly, mp3 usually uses about .9 megabytes per minute, and i think ipods mainly use mp3s, but I'm not sure.

About 7500 songs. It also depends what you are using. A memory card, flash drive, ipod, etc. For ipods, here is a link of all different GB: http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/consumer_electronics/ipod_faq/how-many-songs-does-ipod-hold-capacity.html

The amount of songs a 30 gigabyte Microsoft Zune can hold depends on the length of each song. A Zune can potentially hold up to 7,500 songs, at about 3 minutes 30 seconds a song.
