50 stars. There are 50 stars on the current flag of the United States of America - one star for each state in the U.S.A. While "America" is commonly thought to describe the United States of America it is technically inaccurate. The American continent includes North America, Central America, and South America. Each of these Americas include a number of countries. For example North America includes Canada, the United States, and Mexico. Each country on the American continent has a different national flag.

There are 50 stars representing 50 states in the United States of America. In 1777 our first flag had 13 stars. Since 1795 a new star was added to our flag as new states were admitted to the USA.

There are 50 stars on the current American flag. Though many would attempt to make a correction, that it is the US Flag you refer to, America is also a viable and correct title. The term America has become a common informal name used in reference to the United States of AMERICA, and citizens of this country are commonly known abroad as "Americans" not "United Statsians" or any other absurdity resulting from ignorant attempts at politically correct speech. The US is currently the only nation in either North or South America with the distinction "of America" in its name and thus it is considered socially, linguistically, and politically acceptable to refer to the nation by its colloquial handle.

50 for the 50 states. Other versions are earlier flags, always with the number of stars equalling the number of states. For example, the American flag with a circle of 13 stars: the flag of the original 13 colonies.
