I know there were at least 3 in the eighties, and possibly 3 in the nineties. But my question is: do you count the humiliating yet extremely entertaining 1993 Sugar Bowl against Alabama as "participating"?

Miami has been in 9 National Title games 5 in the 80's(83, 85, 86, 87, 89) 2 in the 90's(91,92) 2 in 00's(01,02)

The previous answer is slightly off. Miami has participated in nine national championship games, but four were during the 80's and three were during the 90's.
