One of Margaret Mitchell's friends and one of the few that knew she was writing a book was working at the MacMillian Company. They were looking for new novels written in the South and so Lois suggested that the publisher vists Mitchell. At first she insisted that she was not a writer, but eventually she gave him the manuscript. So the answer is none. It was never rejected.

Only the title film. It can be argued a wide range of films have mixed war and romance- a diverse bunch. But it is going too far to call say Dr. Zhivago, Gone with the Wind with a Russian accent! as far as I know only one film done on GWTW. BY the way Margaret Mitchell, who penned the novel, was essentially a one-book author.
