It depends on the state you live in. It's best to contact a school in your area or go to the website for your state's massage requirements. In New York, the requirement is 1,000 hours which usually translates into a little less than 2 years. I don't think any state requires more than that. Also, regardless of where you get your licence/certification, you must meet the requirements of the state you are going to practice in, even if you got your license somewhere else. If you are going to school, it's best to take that state's Board Exam/certification exam AND take the National Boards which covers a number of states, but not all.
