Natural life. The current Director of the MDOC, Patricia Caruso, and her band of lackeys currently on the state Parole Board have stated repeatedly that life in Michigan means life. Life with the possibility of parole is nothing more than a statement on a sentencing document; their focus is on the word life.
life in prison is usually any amount of years the judge orders, then in which you will go back to court and the judge will decide if you will be released on parole. for example, I murder two rival gang members for the opposite side of my hood, I would go to county jail for maybe a year before my trial ends. the judge then sentences me 20 years. if I had done any other felonies it would probably be 30 years. so if youre going to murder someone, make you don't have a record because youll be doing a significant amount of time! so anyways while in prison I behave and join a choir program, and go through counseling. after my 20 years is up, I will go back to court with sponsors that saw my progress in the correctional facility. the judge and jury decide to let me out on parole, that means I am physically free from being locked up, but I will have to pretty much be crime free for the rest of my life in order to stay out. If I do anything criminal, even fairly small, I would go back to prison for years. Less harshly maybe even like a year in county jail if it was for fighting or something. Simply, life sentence doesn't have to be for life, just a good chunk of time and then you could be released, but you'll have to be a saint to stay out of custody, which usually this is not the case if you are gang related.
