So, realistically, not much.

In order to make as much as you would at a minimum wage job, therefore, you'd have to collect somewhere between 70 and 145 bottles per hour, and that's assuming you're finding them and didn't have to pay the deposit on them in the first place.

That said, if you've got a decent place to look, it does add up as a supplemental income source. I had a friend in grad school who bought a fridge for his office one semester by just going through the neighboring large lecture hall after each freshman chemistry class, picking up soda cans that had been left behind, and turning them in for the nickel deposit.
