How much corn is required to produce a gallon of ethanol?

Answer

Currently a bushell of corn produces about 2.8 gallons of ethanol. With better varieties that figure will increase to 3 gallons. In the near future, the corn distillate will be processed again, yielding some more ethanol.

A large tank of fuel (60-70 litres) requires the same amount of corn that could feed a single person for a year.
