== == No engine damage. The problem is that the spark plugs won't ignite the diesel fuel. If you can drain all of the fuel lines, most of the tank and fill back up with gas and clean or replace plugs, then it will probably start right up. Back in the 50's, some gasoline tractor engines would start on gasoline with a small starting tank and after it was warmed up, you could switch to the main tank which was diesel fuel. Since the engine was warm it would vaporize enough of the diesel to ignite with the plugs. Major damage would have occurred if the reverse was done by putting gasoline in a diesel vehicle. It will run fine with a small mixture of diesel in the tank so don't worry about getting all of the fuel out of the tank. Starting fluid might help get it started to clean out any remaining diesel fuel in the lines. For more information please see the answer to the Related Question shown below.

How ofter should you change the cambelt on a 1998 astra old style?

Petrol, 40,000 miles, 4 years. (ignore the service book, which may say 80,000 or 8 years, as most won't actually last this long) Diesel depends on engine type. Vauxhall diesel engine 80,000 miles, 8 years. Isuzu Diesel engine 100,000 miles, 10 years. 2.2 petrol, and 2.0 diesel are cam chain, and should not need changing.
