Best Answer

In the metric system, density can be based upon waiter because water is approximately 1 gram per centimeter cubed, or one thousand kilograms per meter cubed. Atmospheric gas (at sea level at a temperature of 15 degrees Celsius) is about 1.225 kilograms per meter cubed.

No, water is more dense then air, under normal conditions. Air can be compressed to be more dense then water, however that is true for near everything.

If air was more dense then water, then water would float and air would sink (so water would fill the sky).

Air at 200 C and 101,325 kPa: 1,2041 g/cm3

Water at 200 C and 101,325 kPa: 0,998 207 1 g/cm3

When you compare the density of water or air with another object how can you tell which has the lower or higher density?

-- If the object floats in water, then its density is less than the density of water. -- If the object sinks in water, then its density is more than the density of water. -- If the object floats in air, then its density is less than the density of air. -- If the object sinks in air, then its density is less than the density of air.

Compare the density of water and air?

Air's density is less than that of water. Water's density is almost 800 times greater than air.

Why is the density of water greater than the density of air given the same volume for each material?

The density of water is 1 g/cm3.The density of air is 0,001225 g/cm3.

When a submarine pumps water out of its floatation tanks its density decreases and it floats. why does its density decreases?

Because the tanks are filled with air afterwards. Air has a lower density than water.

Explain why an object under water feels lighter when its in the air?

Objects underwater feel lighter than it is in the air because water density is greater then air density.

Light traveling between air and water is?

refracted because of the change in density from air to water

If an object is buoyant in air is it buoyant in water?

Yes, since the density of air is less than the density of water, a buoyant object in air is buoyant in water. In any body of water that is exposed to the air, in fact, said object would escape the body of water entirely.
