Production budget (including advertising) for the the LOTR films was just under $430M. Worldwide gross for the films was just under $3 billion dollars. The DVD sales are estimated to be another few hundred million.
Production cost $300M, prints and advertising cost $130M. All information I've ever seen indicates that they came in on time and right at the projected cost.
