According to the international lifeguard survey of 1987, $6.73 per hour. This equates to $13.56 by todays standards, taking into account inflation, demand, average cross sectional area of modern floatation devices, decreased pirate ship sightings and increased shark attacks. Lifeguards pay range can range depending what facility that one works at here is a example some lifeguards can make as much to $8-$15 dollors an hour.As a stated before it depends on the facility.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have never, ever heard of a lifeguard earning $15.00/hour. This may hold true if you are a veteran, head-guard on a highly-trafficked beach-front facility, but I believe anywhere from $7.00/hour to $9.00/hour, all depending on your age, years on the job, and the state in which you are employed (e.g.: minimum wage).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have worked as a both a head and regular life guard for 8 years and I wouldn't consider working for or hiring a guard for less than $14.00 per hour. If you want quality staff you need to ensure they have proper qualifications and MATURITY. I promise you the only training that some one making $7.00-$15.00 an hour will have is BC, SFA-CC, and if your lucky NLS and will be 14-16 yrs old. At the last pool I supervised I was making $22.00/hr and all of my staff were making $14.00/hr-Junior Guard <1yr exp. $16.00/hr-lifeguard 1-3 yrs exp. and $18.00/hr-Senior Guard 3-5 yrs exp. Each of these positions have incremental wage increases and dental and pension benefits throughout the work period and each member has logged hours and is expected to renew certification annually. There is also waterfront director career building programs if the individual is interested.

100% of teenage lifeguards require mentoring and regular training/re-certification. One of the first facilities I worked for had a girl who had an epileptic seizure in the pool and the junior guard was the only person on deck because management decided that it was more cost effective to hire 16 year old kids to monitor the safety of the patrons. The girl ended up being retrieved by another swimmer and the lifeguard was asked "aren't you going to do something?" he responded, "I don't know what to do."

The $44,000/year Diploma manager with <1 yrs exp. put the $20,800/yr lifeguard in a position he should never have been in alone in the first place to save a buck.

This situation ended up in a young girl being in a coma for 4 days and a $480,000 lawsuit against the facility by her parents. The funny thing is how can you expect a 16 year old to save some ones life when they have never done it before or seen some one do it before? The pool was privately run and closed down that same year.

Now this kid might seem like an idiot but he just froze in a new and scary situation, it happens almost every new guard when in a life threatening situation. 6 years later he is one of the best professionals in the field responding to a wider range of incidents than even myself. I have had the pleasure of working with and hiring him in a different position.

Like most things in life you get what you pay for!

Well usually lifeguards make about $9 or $10 an hour.

For $9 an hour and 30 hour weeks

~$270 a week

~$13,500 for 50 weeks (so there is a 2 week period not counted for days off that you may have)

For $10 an hour and $30 weeks

~$300 a week

~$15,000 for 50 weeks

Hope I helped =]

That depend son what country you are asking about. Some countries like New Zealand only few lifeguards even get paid and we have one of the most dangerous beaches in the world (Piha's) and yet the majority of them are volunteer's. In other countries they do get paid but i doubt that it is very much.
