Nuns are not salaried in the usual sense of the word. They are members of religious communities or orders, and poverty is part of the deal. therefore they do not get pay checks or similar stipends. Money is donated to- say the Sisters of Charity- the Sisters of St.Joseph, etc. and goes into a common fund. not that we have a moneyless society- one or more sisters are designated as purser or treasurer and they manage the common funds- akin to the treasurer or a club. They( the Nuns) are permitted to vote but may not normally run for public office. The same applies to Priests. ( they can and do serve as College presidents- for example- but could nor run for- say, Mayor of Jersey City. conflict of interest and the separation of church and State.
