How much does 1 cubic meter weight? In: Engineering |
[Edit] |
Answer
Depends. A cubic meter of WHAT? If it's a cubic meter of lead, it would weigh quite a bit. A cubic meter of air, no so much.
The standard substance that is used to relate metric measurements to each other is water. The "kilogram" was defined as the mass (not weight, but similar) of one cubic centimeter of water at normal pressure. There are 1 million cubic centimeters in a cuibic meter, so a a cubic meter of water would have a mass of 1 million grams, or 1,000 kilograms, or 1 metric ton.
To obtain the mass of 1 cubic meter of some other substances, simply multiply the specific gravity of the subtance by the mass of a cubic meter of water.
