The cost of horse food depends on your breed of horse, and what sort of work you are doing with him. Obviously racehorses would eat much more energy-rich foods like oats and pellets. An average trail horse should be fed at least once a day with hay and/or chaff. For an extra treat you could add in pony pellets or carrots. The average price of a bale of hay in my area is $30-$35. Bags of chaff start at $3 a kilo, which is not alot, and bulk buying does save!!
The amount of money it costs to feed a horse per day will vary according to the weight of the horse, the activity level of the horse, the type of feed being given, your location, and the local economy. To figure out daily costs you should figure up how much food the horse will get every day for one year then add up the yearly expense and divide it by 365, this will give you the daily cost to feed your horse.
The amount you spend will vary considerably from region to region and even person to person. Certain types of hay are more expensive than others and will cost more to feed. also different brands of horse pellets or grains will vary in cost a bit. I would not budget less than $500 if you are unsure of prices. It's best to find hay as early as possible and reserve what you want, this will also help to 'lock' in a price. As for bagged horse feeds you can buy those as needed but the price may fluctuate over the course of a year. One way to figure out how much you need to budget is to find what the average price of hay is in your area and what size bales are used most often. Then figure out how much the horse would eat in pounds for that whole year and divide that number by the weight of the bales to find how many you would need and how much it would cost. You can do the same with bagged feeds.
Typically around $20 at a Murdochs.
It depends what food you are buying. there are lists of different types of food that you could feed your horse. the most popular food is, chaff, or some sort of mix.:)
A mustang, like any horse, can cost varying amounts in food and living cost depending on a number of factors, such as where the horse is kept, how hard they are worked, their age, weight, and health. On average though, six hundred and thirty dollars a year.
It should cost roughly 200,000 pounds per year for a race horse, maybe 12,000 for a normal horse, this includes first class stables food and training (for race horse).
A horse cost anywhere from $10 to as much as $200 in that time period, depending on its bloodlines and what it was used for--cow horse, race horse, etc.
