I have worked at a few dealerships, service charges were different at each place. I worked at a Cadillac dealer service charge was up to $140/hr. I also worked for a Chevrolet dealer and service charges were $95/hr. Most auto repair places will sales repairs as a whole, ex. and coolant pump replacing will cost you $850 instead telling you parts are $250 and labor will be 6.3hrs at $95/hr. Some dealers also use what is called a matrix where the more hours a repair takes the more per hour you ( the customer) is charged. Example engine replacement takes 24 labor hours. The first hour will cost $95 but each hour will increase usually in even increments up to $175 or more. Instea the engine replacement costing $2280 it can cost up to $3240 or more plus parts.

Most mechanics in the United States charge between 45 dollars and about 95 dollars per hour. To find out how much a mechanic will charge to replace a part, you will need to see how long it will take to do the service and estimate the cost of the parts.
