The fiberglass cast that reaches from the toes up to just below the knee weighs one and a half pounds. This answer was from a very experienced nurse at the Hospital for Special Surgery who replaced my cast yesterday (1/13/2012). I asked because I was on a diet and needed to monitor my weight. She said she'd weighed several of them and that's about what they all weighed. My cast was made with a layer of stockinette, a layer of soft cotton padding, a layer of plain fiberglass tape, and an outer layer of decorative fiberglass tape. I'm 5' 10" and weigh 160 lbs.

I am wearing one right now, and even though it feels like it's 20lbs, I believe it actually only weighs about 5lbs.

Your 2.5 year old is in a fiberglass cast and is ready to put his weight on his leg but you have wood floors that are slippery can you put little gripper strips on his cast?

I'm not positive about putting gripper strips on the cast, but a good solution is to buy a cast shoe, it helps a lot when a child has a cast and want to walk, ask your doctor or got a pharmacy and ask for it, is the best solution.
