At this writing (November 2007), there have been/are several iPod models that are capable of video playback: iPod 5th generation (Late 2005 - Late 2006 ), available in 30GB and 60GB configurations in black or white acrylic face with chrome back. List prices for these models were $299 and $399 respectively. iPod '5.5th generation' (Late 2006- Late 2007), available in 30GB and 80GB configurations in black or white acrylic face with chrome back. These models had improved battery life, and a search feature built into the software, but otherwise were identical to their predecessors. They also carried a lower price tag, at $249 and $349 respectively. Also included in this family is the iPod U2 Special Edition (30GB capacity), which was black with a red clickwheel and an anondized black back featuring etched reproduction of the signatures of the band. The U2 models were $20 or so more expensive than the regular 30GB models. iPod Classic (late 2007 - present), available in 80GB and 160GB configurations in black or silver aluminum face with a chrome back. Priced at $249 and $349 respectively. iPod nano 3rd generation (late 2007-present), available in 4GB in silver only for $149, or 8GB in silver, blue, green, black, and red for $199. iPod touch (late 2007 - present), available in 8GB and 16GB configurations. Priced at $299 and $399 respectively. *iPhone (mid 2007 - present), available in 4GB and 8GB configurations. While not technically an iPod, it does feature iPod functionality, and nearly identical software to the iPod touch. Introduced at $499 and $599 respectively, their prices were dropped about two months after their introduction to $299 and $399, and the 4GB model was discontinued. Of course, the prices above are for new units; often, used iPods can be had for much less from private sellers or overstock/bulk retailers. Also, Apple itself sells refurbished iPods on their website for considerably less than retail.
