A LOT. How famous? There are many things to consider before even thinking about the band. It's actually pretty unlikely you'd get a "famous" band to play at your party, even paying their customary fee.
In addition to the band, you'd be responsible for all their contract riders. Figure at least $5,000 for the "hospitality" rider. Figure at LEAST $5,000 for lighting and at LEAST $5,000 for sound equipment. They will have a stage requirement. Can you get a stage of the required size? That's another $5,000. Many bands require that local stagehands union (IATSE) as backstage workers. Depending on how many people they need, figure $3,000. That may sound steep for concert workers, but it's better than "rent-a-drunk" and who will run the spotlights and set up the show? You? The band will likely require first class plane fare and professional drivers to take them to and from the airport. Band members will be arriving from different cities. Logistics kind of suck. If they have an overnight stay, don't expect them to be OK with a Super 8.
Now the bands themselves...
Cheap Trick used to be able to be had for $20,000 plus production (about $12,000 for them) but now they are in the $40-$75,000 range, depending on venue etc.
Not famous enough?
About six years ago, Foo Fighters were about $125,000. I'd expect them to be in the $400,000 plus range now.
Metallica could be had for a million per show. Plus expenses. Plus production. And you won't get off with $12,000 production like Cheap Trick.
The Rolling Stones? 2 million minimum.
Even Kenny Rogers still gets $60,000 per show.
Country has traditionally been a tad cheaper. Still $100,000 minimum for Reba though.
