I just got a price today to replace my septic tank pump. If they put in a 1/3 hp pump, it would be $375 installed. But since my sand mound is uphill from my septic tank, they said I should have a stronger pump. I was advised to install a 1/2 hp pump at more than $700! I just had my pump replaced 5 years ago. Instead of shelling out that much money, I decided to try to do it myself. I checked out submersible pump prices online, which I found to be in the $300 - $400 range for a 1/2 hp pump. Wiring directions will come with the unit. My tank was pumped out today, so should be a relatively "clean" job. Wish me luck.

∙ 9y agoAn good quality 1/3 hp pump will cost about 300. Most come as a plug in unit, but you do have to set the float switch for the pump to work properly. Independent pump technicians will charge about 200 - 250 labour for the whole job.
