I am by no means a professional but am a Home Inspector. Let's say: for a typical 1600 sq. ft., total electric heat pump installation will run between 3500-4500. Get a new 14+ SEER unit, you will at least have to get a new evap coil installed and FYI, the old freon R22 will be banished by 2010, I think the new replacement freon is called r41a (puron). Get three quotes then decide, the cheapest might not be the best. You want a quality install, it will be work the extra dough. Make sure you have a warranty and even tax breaks up to 1500!!
