The average adult bicycle weighs roughly 30 pounds, but this is dependent among many factors.

Firstly, road bikes have a variety of weights depending on the purpose, quality, and manufacturing date. Older road bikes could weight as much as 35 or even 40 pounds. Nowadays, the everyday road cyclist owns a bicycle that weighs usually between 15 and 25 pounds. Furthermore, carbon fiber has began to become more utilized for bicycle frames, wheels, and even components. The UCI, which regulates professional road bike races, has set a weight limit on road bikes. Every bike used in bike races must weight at LEAST 15 pounds. Some people have been able to produce and design full size, completely functioning bicycles that weigh as little as 7 pounds!

Next, there are mountain bikes, which can weigh a mere 15 pounds at the professional cross-country cycling level up to 40 pounds for a strong downhill bike with full suspension systems.

Depends on the quality of the bicycle. Here is a breakdown. Fair Quality - (100.00 Huffy, Alum and steel - 35 to 45 lb) Hi Quality - (1300.00 Giant Aluminum 16 - 22 lb) Excellent Quality (Carbon Fiber 14 to 20 lb) Recumbent Tadpole Aluminum - 35 to 40lb Other factors include weight of components, pedals, gearing. Expect a few more pounds of weight between the road bikes and mountain bikes. MTB bikes weight approx 10lb more in the ranges of quality because of suspension and weight of tires and the aluminum rating of the frameset. Weight is the key factor in your decision of if you want to go fast or be comfortable. Try to trim the weight more by packing a backpack as light as possible. You offset the quality of the bike if you load down on extra water bottles and unused clothing, etc.
