First you have to decide if the skirt is just going to go around the bed, or attached to a "platform" the size of the bed. Then choose whether you are doing a fitted (straight) style, or gathered, which would take about twice or three times as much fabric. Another decision to make is how long of a drop you want. The standards range anywhere from 14 inches to 21 inches.
If you have a California King, the size will be different from the size of an Eastern King.
To determine how much fabric, measure the actual size of the bed, determine the width of the fabric (90", 60", 45"). Once you have made the decisions suggested above, you can take your information to the fabric shop, and they will help you calculate the amount you need.
