I don't know where people got 160 and 242. 160 is probably a 4.3L vortec not a 5.7L. Bone stock it makes about 270-280. I have a 1998 GMC Sierra with high flow intake and throttle body space plus some other stuff and its running 300+.

if you look at the factory specs a 5.7L 350 vortec gets 255hp, and before that the 350 before the vortec 1990 to 1995 is about 210 hp. that's why gm got rid of the vortec 350 because as good as the 350 vortec is, it was not putting out enough power for something as bis as a 350, because even in 1999 the 4.8 vortec was doing alot more.

------I don't know where the above guy is gettin his sources, but a stock 5.7 vortec puts out 255 hp. And with minor motifications such as a throttle body spacer and intake, he might be putting out 270 hp is he's lucky, not 300+. A 1988 - 1995 Chevy tbi 350 puts out bone stock 200 hp. And with minor motifications such as a throttle body spacer and intake, he might be putting out 270 hp, not 300

I have a 1997 gmc Sierra same mods but have bored the motor 30 thousandths and worked the heads all lower end is new Schmidt racing done the motor with a mild cam just enough not to trip the check engine light.. These vortec motors you cannot put a gear drive on them due to the knock sensor.. but chain drive is fine unless going over 500 hp... The Vortec is a awesome motor if you take proper care of it they are known for intakes leaking but other than that very dependable truck..

MY MOTOR AFTER ALL THESE MODS AND 1800 DOLLARS IS PUSHING 325 HORSEPOWER THATS IT BUT I HAVE 4:10 GEARS AND A 2500 STAHL SO ADD THAT UP...
