It depends on the condition and mint mark. MLook on the back of the coin to see if there's a small mint mark letter below the wreath. It may be blank or there may be an S.

Numismedia lists the following approximate retail values as of 09/2010:

No mint mark (Philadelphia):

Very worn condition - $1

Moderately worn - $2

Slightly worn - $3

Almost no wear - $17

Uncirculated - $25 to $810 depending on quality

"S" mint mark (San Francisco):

Very worn - $66

Moderately worn - $90

Slightly worn - $108

Almost no wear - $187

Uncirculated - $252 to $980

If your coin has an S mint mark you should have it examined in person, because counterfeits exist and that possibility has to be ruled out.

DISCLAIMER: The values quoted are the best available, but may vary due to market fluctuations. Also the wholesale (buying) price of a coin will be less than the selling (retail) price. A reputable coin dealer will be able to give a more accurate valuation based on inspection of the coin.

In average circulated condition, and 1888 Indian Head Cent is worth about a dollar.

If you can make out all the letters in LIBERTY on the headband, it will be worth $3-$4

If it looks almost like new, it's worth about $15

Assuming the coin is circulated and does not have an "S" mintmark, the 1908 Indian Head cent is a common date coin. Most show a lot of wear. For an accurate assessment of value the coin needs to be seen and graded. In general retail values for low grade coins are $1.00-3.00, better grade are $7.00-$10.00 and coins showing almost no wear run from $15.00-$21.00. Values are a market average and only for coins in collectible condition, coins that are bent, corroded, scratched, used as jewelery or have been cleaned have far less value if any to a collector or dealer.
