The value of an 1853 US one cent penny can vary depending on its condition and rarity. In general, a worn 1853 penny may be worth around $5 to $10, while a well-preserved specimen could be valued at $50 or more. It is recommended to have the coin appraised by a professional numismatist to get an accurate assessment.

Be sure that what you have is a penny. If it's the size and color of a nickel and has a large V on the back, that's because it's (drum roll) a nickel, not a penny! In that case, here are values as of 03/2009:

Very worn condition - $5

Moderately worn - $22

Slightly worn - $47

Almost no wear - $100

OTOH if it's the size of a penny, plated coins are considered to be damaged goods. Without the plating, it was worth $1 to $10 depending on its condition. Plated, it's only worth face value.

1. Cent or penny, not "pennie"

2. Steel, not tin

3. 1943, not 1945

Assuming that "coin" is correct, you have a wartime cent minted out of steel to save copper for use in ammunition. In average condition it's worth 25 to 35 cents.

If you have a silver-colored cent with a different date it's been plated. Plating a coin destroys any collector value so if it's not dated 1943 it's only worth 1 cent.

The answer will depend on which country's currency you are referring to. And since you have not bothered to share that bit of information, I cannot provide a more useful answer.
