I just today started researching the same question. There are a few sites that show anywhere from $800-$1,000. Gold has gone way up. I searched just a year or so ago and it was just over $500.00
To date that is about
US$25 per CAD$1.00 or equivalent to US$1,250.00

What you speak of appears to be a Gold maple leaf 1oz pure gold 99.99% pure hence four 9's it's value will fluctuate with the current price of gold. It usually commands a premium of 100-200 above the current value of 1 oz of gold due to the reputation of the royal Canadian mint.

If the cent was found in circulation, it is only worth face value. If it is a "proof" that was purchased from the Canadian Mint, it is worth about 1.50 retail.
