DeVillier wood clarinets are quite rare, having been in limited production only in the early to mid 1950s. They are small bore horns, similar to Selmer models 9-star and 10. Keywork was nickel silver; the wood is grenadilla. Intonation is much better than average, but volume in the low register suffered due to their small bore. Some would say "soft and mellow" is their sound. Expect to pay no more than $250 for one in excellent cosmetic and playing condition.
A De Villier grenadilla Clarinet in decent playing condition would be an absolute prize for any intermediate player if priced under $300. There were few made, but unless the two body parts are damaged there is no problem replacing parts if needed. These clarinets were made in the 1950's through the late 1960's by skilled workmen from the manufacturer Keilwerth. A comparable quality Yamaha (the current benchmark for beginner-intermediate level clarinets) would be the model YCL-450. Hope this helps.
it's usually about $1000 if its in good condition
A clarinet made out of wood.
The small piece of wood on the clarinet is the reed.
I have one for $120.00 I think it's worth about $350.00 It depends on the condition of the wood and who wants it.
at the least, it is worth $300, if in slightly poor shape. in excellent condition, it is worth $400 or more. usually more. :)
Yes, there were changes to the clarinet since it was made. The clarinet used to be made of a typre of wood, called grenadilla wood. Now, many clarinets are made of different woods, plastics, metals, and sizes. The type of clarinet depends on what it's made from, and how it's designed.
