In 2021, £20,000 from 1847 would be roughly equivalent to around £2.2 million in today's money. This is a rough estimate and actual values may vary based on different factors like inflation rates and economic conditions.

Using a British Pound Sterling inflation calculator, £20,000 in 1847 is roughly £14,400,000 (from 2009 inflation). Taking that £14.4m and using and currency exchange converter, Jane Eyre inherited the equivalent of $22,000,000 in 2011.

well if you use the inflation from 1847 which is +12.37%, Jane Eyre would inherit £2,000,000 from her uncle. which is a lot of money even now! i wish my uncle left me that!

About 1.7 million pounds in modern money.

Roughly mind you, in US Dollars in the recent years it would be equivalent to 14.0 million. Be it 1847 or 2012... that's a pretty penny! =)
