The New Orleans Saints cheerleaders don't get paid for appearance's until they've done 20, each cheerleader has to sell 100 calenders a season and only make $5 for each calender AFTER the first hundred are sold (example, if a cheerleader sells 120 calenders she only makes $100, since she only get paid the $5 a piece for the 20 of them over a hundred she sold). About the most they can make a season when you total games, appearance's, calender sales, etc, is about $6,000.

A women I went to high-school with was an NFL cheerleader in the Southwest for about 6 years, she made between $5,000-$8,000 per season. Many team's cheerleaders are required to have full time jobs or be in school to be on the team, cheering is NOT their main source of income! They do it for fun, because they enjoy performing, being local celebrities, have a passion for cheering, and/or hope to use cheering to network their way into a good job after college or a better job with their current education/experience. They meet a lot of people, some big wigs in wide ranges of business, the exposure to these people can help them get better positions in their career field....somtimes. Many cheerleaders are happy with their career and do it purely for the love of the game and the fun of being a cheerleader. It's definitely NOT for the money!
