Well in the state of Pennsylvania a state trooper makes on average 50,070 a year before taxes with benefits. There is also a bit in there for over time and such, but that is the basic pay for a starting trooper. During training you make a little over 1000 every two weeks for the 20 or so weeks of training. Be aware although well paid you should never be a police officer for the salary, nothing ever equals some of the things you will see, hear, and deal with. It all depends on which state you wish to work in. NY state troopers start at $50374. 5 year vets average about 90k. Historically, the base pay doubles about every 12 years. States in the southern US (with not so powerful labor unions) will pay considerably less.
