That depends on where you buy it. In most countries (Except the GCC Countries) where they sell camels, most people earn just a few tens of Dollars (or Pounds) per year. But in the Gulf Countries (GCC) -Only- Among all other countries of the world (The GCC Countries are Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emarites, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, and Oman) A camel can cost up to 20 million dollar or may be more..that depends on the camel. Some others my cost way less than that..20,000 USD or some.. it just depend on the camel look and other things pro knows. Because its their tradition and they actually used it in their past (100 years ago) alot to travel, they also call camels desert ships.
A live camel cost about 5000 dollars on average. Camel meat cost an average of 500 dollars. If you're referring to camel rides it cost 20 dollars for adults and 16 dollars for kids.
A sturdy male with a life expectancy of 60-80 years now fetches up to $973.

The same reason horses can be expensive. Different types of camels, and the quality of breeding can contribute to the price.
