It depends what state you work for. A typical starting salary for a forensic scientist I is 40k/year with some places lower, I saw West Virginia offering 28k and places with a high cost of living offering up to 50k+. Over time they can work their way up the ladder and max out around 65k or so unless they get to be director of the lab or something similar.
