This will depend on the country, and the type of contract.

Some nurses have a full time job, committed to one ward/clinic, and are paid a salary (per annum).

However, other nurses choose to only work bank shifts, which pay significantly more.

Night shifts & weekends as bank pay more than weekday day shifts.

Registered Nurses typically earn about $15-20/hour on average. My wife is a Registered Nurse and now after 20 years of work she has a monthly salary of 27 500 SEK which is about 3 700 USD (then of course the Swedish taxes take over one third...)
It depends on the hospital and they area she is assigned. The country is also a factor. :)
