How much the tuition rate is, will be strictly dependent on your college of choice. If you plan on attending a private college, then most likely the tuition will be some what higher in most cases as compared to a public or state college. It will also depend on whether you are pursuing an Associates or Bachelors in nursing. However, you must realize that the tuition rateis one thing, and the fees are another. Still, your major financialconcern should be focused on the collegesadditional fees. As an example, lets say a community college's tuition is based on $76.00 per credit. This does not include fee's such as Application fee, Registration fees, General fees, Technology fees, course fees, Lab fees, Parking fees etc. On top of this, you need to consider the cost of books, which is not inexpensive. Now to even make you feel better, here are the clinical fees of one community college I know of. Clinical fees for four semesters particular to RN, nursing. Nursing I - $3,200.00 Nursing II - $3,200.00 Nursing III - $3,200.00 Nursing IV - $4, 000.00 Please note, the above clinical fee areon top ofthe tuition and general fees. Thus you can see how this can add up. Is it worth it? Judging by thestability of the career, salaries, benefits, ability to relocated etc. YES!! Some individuals will need financial assistance which you can check out with the colleges Financial Aid Dept. If you do not qualify for Financial Aid, you can take out a Guaranteed Study Loan. In addition, ask the college's Financial Aid Office for a scholarship application, and indicate that you are applying for any scholarship thatyou may be eligible for. They will match your qualifications against the available scholarship offerings. Note: Apply for financial aid early.Remember,a college will always run out of financial resources before it runs out of eligible candidates.Youmay apply for financial aid directly on line, rather than by snail mail. If you apply on line, you will get your answer in about2 to3 weeks, rather than6 to 8 weeks. You do not even (initially) have to be an accepted student before you apply. Just indicate your college of choice. You must apply for a pin number first. This will allow you to electronically sign documentation, and if you are a Dependant, your parent or guardianwill also have to apply for one. It's really easy, just ask the financial aid office for the information or go to: http://www.fafsaonline.com/ Now, one last thing. If you are choosing nursing as a career, make sure you are choosing this field for the right reasons. In other words, if I am laying on abed in a hospital, and I am looking up at you, I want to know that I am your first priority, and not some where down the list after your salary, benefits, how many weeks vacation you get etc. Thus, make sure you are there because you have a passion for what you do, and the benefit it brings others as well as yourself.

The cost of schooling can be impacted by the location and reputation of the school as well as what type of nursing degree you want such as LPN or RN. On average the cost of going to school for nursing will be between 5 thousand and 40 thousand dollars plus the cost of testing which is usually 250.

The fees for a nursing degree this year would of course depend on the institution offering the degree and what type of nursing degree sought. However, with lab fees, uniforms, textbooks, and enrollment your approximate range would be $4500-$7000.

There are no standard tuition and fee rates for colleges and universities. Each institution will have rates particular to itself. There are a number of variables to consider to include whether the institution is public or private, the geographical location, the specific program of study (some of which have greater course and/or clinical fees), and whether the school is a two year or four year institution. Once you collect the names of some colleges and universities you have an interest in, you can then research the cost specific to those institutions. To help you in your research, read the following carefully and follow through with the link provided.

For colleges and universities within the United States and its territories, you can obtain this information by clicking on the related links section (College Board) indicated at the bottom of this answer box and using the sites College MatchMaker search engine. You can research colleges and universities by name, or by programs of study, or by geographical location, size, or combinations of part or all of them. The site will provide you with a list of institutions based on your request. It will give you the schools background, accreditation, degree offerings, programs of study (majors), entrance requirements, tuition and fees, financial assistance, room and board, athletic programs etc. and a link to each institutions official web page. Practice navigating this site. It will be well worth the time and effort.

WARNING!!!

When choosing a college or university, make sure the institution has a regional accreditation. With a regional accreditation you can be assured the coursework and degree you complete will be recognized by all other colleges and universities as well as employers. Below I have listed the six accrediting agencies and their geographical areas of responsibility. I am disclosing the below so you do not become a victim of educational scams, institutions that are nothing more than diploma mills, or that do not have the best accreditation, and are eager to take your money for a degree that is worthless. Make sure the institution is accredited by one of following responsible agencies.

Regional Accreditation Agencies

· Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools - Educational institutions in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands, as well as schools for American children in Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East.

· New England Association of Schools and Colleges - Educational institutions in the six New England states (Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont).

· North Central Association of Colleges and Schools - Educational institutions in Arkansas, Arizona, Colorado, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, New Mexico, South Dakota, Wisconsin, West Virginia, and Wyoming.
