Please review your lien documents and notifications.
Often, release of the lien is your responsibility. A Release of Lien is made available to the debtor by the association's attorney, and the debtor takes the Release to the local courthouse and pays for the lien to be released.
Your association's board or association manager can help you determine who's responsible in your particular situation.
If a debt has been paid off, the lien holder is required to release the lien. If the lien holder refuses, you will need to get a lawyer and take the case to court
I paid off my debt for a car eight years ago and TransSouth still has a lien on it how do I get a release of lien on the vehicle?????
A consumer can only obtain a lien release when the debt that they have is fully paid. They also have to go to an attorney to get legal proof of that fact.
If the lien is attached to a valid debt, the only recourse the debtor has is to pay the amount of the lien. If the judgment debtor believes the lien to be faulty he or she has the legal right to file suit to have the lien removed from the encumbered property.
Yes. As the "owner" of the debt, they can sell, or assign, the debt to anyone they please.

No there is not statute of limitations. The lien serves as notification that a debt is owed and secures that debt.
No. They would need to obtain a judgment lien against you in court and provide proof that you asked them to pay your taxes and promised to pay them back. Otherwise, in Massachusetts, they would be considered a volunteer.
A statement that describes a lien is that it is a claim put on someone's property (i.e.: a vehicle, real estate, construction) in order to secure the payment of a debt. A lien can also be ordered by a judge for nonpayment of a debt. This lien will affect any property owned by the debtor if the debt is not paid.
A sheriffs lien occurs when a person gets in debt and their property or assets are seized. They are then sold by the sheriffs department to repay the debt.
You will be notified of the lien/debt. In order to clear the home title (i.e.- for sale, or refinance, etc) the lien/debt will have to be satisfied. Depending upon the size of the lien and the circumstances, the lien holder may be able to force a sale of the property in order to collect the debt. It also depends on the lien holder's position. Priority is given to a tax lien, then the 1st mortgage, 2nd, etc.
Usually after a suitable release is filed in the property records. A release is obtained either from the lien-holder when the debt has been satisfied or by a court order (e.g., invalid or otherwise bogus liens).
