There is no set amount of money your supposed to give to the church.
In the Bible (note that my memory might not be serving me completely right, but that this is pretty much what happened), Jesus and his disciples view a poor woman drop a penny into the churches money-box, whereas the pharisees are dropping much larger amounts. They critizise the woman for giving such a small amount, and Jesus points out that she gave all the money she had, whereas the pharisees had given only a small fraction of what they owned.
So whether you can only give a penny to the church, or give a larger amount, it's appreciated.
