In warm weather or a warm house in cool weather offer baby water as needed for thirst. Babies get thirsty just like everyone else - just don't give him or her so much that it interferes with food or formula - a couple ounces at a time between breast feeding and formula is plenty from a cup or bottle depending on their age.

If breastfeeding, no water is needed. Especially if the baby is consuming an adequate amount of breast milk. I breastfed all 3 of my children and never supplemented with H2O despite my mother's dismay. Moreover my OB and the kid's pediatrician confirmed it was best to encourage and offer BM than to fill the baby up with H2O. The mothers BM has an amazing balance of everything the baby needs.

Now if formula feeding, I would still keep H2O to a minimum, otherwise babe is getting full on water instead of the nutrients, electrolytes he/she could get from the formula and a healthy diet.

I am no doctor, just passing on advice from my own doctor and the kid's pediatrician. Remember to always seek formal advice from your own Doctor Who is familiar with your kid's medical history.

Your baby should be having small amounts of water with his meals preferably from a sippy cup. This is so that he gets used to the idea of getting fluids from some other source.

Although breastmilk/formula should still be their main source of fluid, your child is well on the way to becoming a toddler. He will perhaps be starting nursery and BF may not be viable.

I am writing this on the hottest day of the year, and it's important to remember that weaning babies will need extra water to stop them becoming dehydrated. By the way, when I say give supplementary water I mean a couple of ounces every hour or so in hot weather.

Is it safe for your 3 month baby to drink water that contains fluroide?

I would NOT give my 3 month old water containing fluoride. It is a chemical used to improve the condition of teeth, do you really think people should ingest it? It infuriates me that the government and "FDA" think it responsible to even be putting it into the water we drink. I have not knowingly drank water containing it, since before I got pregnant with my son. "Purified" bottled water contains it as well as tap water. I drink spring water, or other bottled water with no added ingredients, and would give it to my son if he was old enough to drink water as well. If you are breastfeeding, there is probably little need to give your baby water at all, unless your physician sees a need in it.
