First off, ct (carats) and kt (karat) are two different terms. Carats describe the size of a diamond. Karats describe the amount of gold in a metal alloy.

Karat is expressed as a proportion of 24ths. 9kt gold means that the metal is 9 parts gold and 15 parts some other metal (usually silver or copper). There is approximately 37.5% gold in your item. Rose gold is not worth more than regular gold. The color comes from adding copper to the alloy without reducing the amount of gold in the alloy.

But we are not done yet! Gold is prices in TROY Ounces, which is 10% heavier than a standard ounce. Be sure that you are measuring your item in troy ounces. If not, add 10% to the standard ounce weight.

The current gold price is $1080 per troy ounce. If you have

2 x 1080 x 0.375 = $810

If you choose to scrap this gold (sell it to a dealer), you should not accept anything less than 80% of the value listed above. If you are offered less, you are getting ripped off (lots of this going on). Reputable dealers or direct submission to a refinery should get you 85-93% of the value.

9 karat gold is not frequently encountered. You may have an antique piece that is worth more than the price of gold. A local jewelry shop should be able to help you with this.
