Interval is - 100000 kms
On the 1996-97 replace it every 60,000 miles.
On the 1998-2000 replace it every 90,000 miles.
Also replace the water pump which is driven by the cam belt. This is NOT an interference engine.
on a rav 4 diesal you should change the timing belt every 65000miles
No need to change it - it's a CHAIN
90,000 Should be the correct replacement mileage
It must have a TIMING CHAIN because Gates ( they make timing belts etc. ) does not list a timing belt for the 2.4 liter 4 cylinder in a 2005 Toyota Rav 4
The 2.4 liter 4 cylinder engine in a 2005 Toyota Rav 4 has a timing CHAIN
The 3.5 litre V6 engine in a 2007 Toyota RAV 4 has a timing CHAIN
1994 Rav 4 engine code 3S-FE Is belt driven.
Timing belt, and it's a beast due to the close proximity to the frame rail.
I found out that my 2002 Rav 4 has a timing CHAIN, no belt, even after the dealer service shop said they would change the BELT. I believe all cars newer than mine will still have a timing change which doesn't need replacing. Sorry for the double posting, but I can't edit the previous: I found out that my 2002 Rav 4 has a timing CHAIN, no belt, even after the dealer service shop said they would change the BELT. It is recommended at 90000 miles before major problems result from not changing it
The 2001 to 2004 2.0L RAV4 all models do not need timing belt change due it doesn't have one, it have a chain that not need replacement only if it breaks (hardly). hope this help.
Timing CHAIN , 4 cylinder and V6
