The first thing is how do you know your dog does not have worms?
Worms can be so small you can not see them or their eggs.
We actually worm our dogs to keep them healthy, but also to keep us healthy too.
The only way to absolutley know your dog has no worms is to do serial ( a few ) stool collection and have them tested.
The risk of human contmination is important.
I would advise worming your dog every 3 months with a reputable allwormer every 3 months, costs less than testing and works for dog and all in contact

You should worm your dog every three months (4 times a year) you should use a treatment that protects against round worm and tapeworm, be sure to check this as most supermarket bought wormers will only do one sort.

If you have a puppy, then the breeder should have dewormed the puppy at least twice by the age of 8 weeks but if they have not dewormed the pup then you need to do it or have your Vet do it when you take your pup in for a check up and vaccinations. The dog should be dewormed twice, once and then again in 10-14 days (the same procedure no matter what age if the dog has never been dewormed). Bring in a fecal sample to your Vet too, take a sample from a two day period to bring in and this can be checked for parasite eggs. The only one that probably will not show up is the Tapeworm as the eggs are hard to find as they are enclosed in segments. I just automatically deworm twice a year for tapes. Fleas are the carriers of tapeworm eggs so keep your dog flea free, using a product like Frontline, put on once a month. You also need to have your dog on a heartworm preventative, such as Heartgard or a generic version of Heartgard such as Tri Heart, etc., which is much cheaper in price. If you have an older dog, then he or she needs to be tested first to make sure she or he is heartworm free. If a young pup, then start the pup at about 10 weeks on a heartworm preventative and give once a month year around. Heartworms are everywhere and mosquitoes are the carriers. Heartworms are deadly and the treatment to get rid of heartworms once they have them is very expensive and they use arsenic which is very toxic to the dog. Sometimes the treatment can kill the dog, so better a once a month preventative to keep your pet in your life as long as possible. Don't forget vaccinations too. Most important.

Can a dachshund puppy get bitten by a mosquito?

Of course a dachshund puppy can be bitten by a mosqueto. Just about anything can be bitten by a mosquito. Mosquito bites transmit the heart worm parasite. Heart worm is deadly to dogs. Puppies should be started on a heart worm preventative to kill any microfilaria (baby heart worm) that are injected by the mosquito into the dogs blood stream. Don't let your dog get heart worm. It can be very dangerous and expensive to treat and will kill your dog if its not fixed.

How often should a two month old puppy be dewormed?

Usually you should wait to worm your dog until it is 6 to 8 weeks old and then worm the dog every 1-2 months whether you know they have worms for sure or not so u know they will stay healthy. A pregnant or mother dog should not have wormer until all her puppies are done nursing.
