States establish laws that pertain to the ages and requirements for obtaining a driver's license. Several states have raised or are in the process of raising the age to eighteen and requiring that the applicant finish high school or has obtained a GED. Other states have laws that allow a high school student to obtain a restricted license depending upon their personal needs, for example if they are employed.
