In the UK you need a license for coarse or game fishing from your 12th birthday onwards. In the United States, the rules vary by each state - your local office of the Department of Natural Resources can tell you.

In USA, it depends on which state you live in. Lots of states have different ages to require their license. Also, if you are planning on fishing in a different state than your residence, you will probably need to get a visitor's license. The age is normally 14 for the visitors. In the UK, you need a license at 12 years of age for freshwater fishing, sea fishing does not require any license.

16 in most states if not all, check your local state laws wa. state limit is 15 +,Juvenile anglers include residents or non-residents 14 years of age or under. Juveniles can fish for free; no licenses required for all legal species, in all open waters during open seasons. A free catch record card is still required in most areas for steelhead, salmon, sturgeon, halibut, and Dungeness crab
