How old is Jesus?

Protected question
Jesus was 33 1/2 years old when he was crucified. He arose from the grave and is alive today. As Jesus stated, "I and my Father are one", he is ageless. He was, is, and always will be. He was there at the creation, and it here today. If you read Genesis you will see that Jesus was there. Jesus is not limited by age. It really does not apply.

Contributor Opinions about the age of Jesus:

  • Colossians 1:13-20 help answer the question of who Jesus is, and, by extension, how old he is. Vs. 15 provides the most insight.

  • The terminology used in John 10:30 is the exact same terminology (in Greek) used when Jesus describes his relationship with his disciples at John 17:21-22. Jesus even relates that parallel to himself and God. Were Jesus and his disciples one and the same? No, but one in purpose and thought. It is the same with Jesus and his father.

  • Colossians 1:15 says that Jesus was the "image of God" and the "firstborn of all creation". This shows that God created Jesus first and foremost. Therefore, his age, while not infinite, would be billions upon billions of years old.

  • Jesus has no age.

  • We don't calculate ages after someone dies, regardless of whether they rose from the grave. So the only age you can assign without giving a spiritual-based answer ("eternal," etc.) would be the one calculated from Biblical accounts of his birth and martyrdom, i.e., about 33.

  • If he was still on this earth, he would be over 2000 years old.

  • Jesus is eternal and He is not bound by age. It was only while He was here on earth that He acquired an age. Jesus was born from his mother Mary and developed in her womb for 9 months, like any other human starts life.

  • The Bible makes clear that it is Christ that gives man "eternal life" at salvation. John 17:2. "Eternal" means having no beginning or end; as opposed to "everlasting life" which denotes a life with a finite beginning and no end. A person can only give what he possesses, so Jesus must have eternal life as just stated AND because "the free gift of God is eternal life IN Christ Jesus our Lord. Rom 6:23. This point is also made clear in the verses cited, but not enunciated. If we continue to the next two verses, the Bible explains that Jesus is called the "firstborn of all creation" NOT because God created him (which He didn't, Christ is God.)

  • John 8:58; 11:25; 20:28-29; 1 John 4:20; Revelation 1:8 & 17 & 22:13 compared with Isaiah 41:4, 44:6, 48:12; John 17:5 compared with Isaiah 42:8 & 48:11; John 16:15; Matt hew 12:6 & 8; Mark 2:28; Luke 6:2; 1 John 5:7; Titus 2:11-13; 1 Timothy 3:16; Hebrews 1:8; John 1:1; Phil 2:5-6; Colossians 2:9; Isaiah 9:6; and many more), but because

FOR by Him ALL THINGS were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities -- ALL THINGS have been created by Him and FOR HIM. HE IS BEFORE ALL THINGS, and in Him all things hold together." Col 1:16-17.

Compare with Gen 1:1 which says God created the heavens and the Earth. Since He created EVERYTHING, then He cannot be created because nothing can create itself.

So he is called "firstborn" because he is God. I agree that the term is not literal because Jesus was never created or born (except as a God-man on earth).

God (Father, Christ, and Holy Spirit) is a Spirit; and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. John 4:24.

  • Jesus Christ is God, so He is Eternal, He always existed. He was, He is and He will always be. IN THE BEGINNING WAS THE WORD (JESUS CHRIST) AND THE WORD WAS WITH GOD, AND THE WORD (JESUS CHRIST) WAS GOD. John 1:1

  • As there is no proof that Jesus is alive and well today, and the only evidence as to his true age comes from the record of the Bible, which has been through many, many translations, determining the actual age of that man is incredibly difficult.

  • Anyone who has played telephone, or has seen multiple versions of an subtitled movie, knows the variation in what is written and what is translated can be vast. Think of the translations necessary for the Bible we know today. There is a whole lot of room for error, and a healthy bit of skepticism. That said, the age when he was killed? Thirty-ish seems reasonable, thirty-three a more distant possibility and thirty-three and a half a doubtful prediction.

  • God has been here before man and God is perfect. He does not have an age because Jesus is not like us. We know this by faith. There are questions out there that our human minds wonder about because we do not understand but we have to have faith and believe what God's Word says and not question it. I suggest if you want to see the answer for yourself buy a King James Bible only (because that where you will get the right answer from) and read it and see what it says. Don't ever question God's Word.

  • If we are talking in human years, he died when he was in his early 30's. Most people calculate around 33. He rose from the grave and lived, therefore making him over 2000 years old. However, if you read the rest of the Bible, there is proof that Jesus and God are one, that he is the Alpha and Omega "the Beginning and the End." This makes him infinite and eternal, having no age.

  • He was 30ish when 0 AD started, but we also know that the calendar is off by several years due to errors the first century so 2040ish as a man, but as God he is forever, thus is ageless.

  • I don't believe anyone but Jesus, Mary and Joseph knew for sure.

  • I believe Jesus is the "Alpha and Omega", the beginning and the end. I would construe from that he is ageless and believe he was "incarnated" not "created" Rev. 1:8, 21:6, 22:13 John17:11,21-26 John 8:58 Although, it is written And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?"-which means, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"Now my question is if Jesus himself is God, then which god is he calling for help.

  • Jesus is Eternal.
