Age of the world acording to the BibleIf you count the years from Adam to Jesus it a little more then 4000 years. Then add 2000 from Jesus to 2007, and you have total 6000 and a few years.

There is two problems with this: 1. Jewish geneaolgy count those who has contributed, and is worth mentioning. Therefor the years between Jesus and Adam is not quite reliable. 2. The Bible does not say how long Adam and Eve lived in the garden of Eden. 3. Between verse 1 and verse 2 in Genesis chapter 1, there could be a enormus time gap.

AnswerIn terms of the original meaning of the original Hebrew, scholars acknowledge that the days of Genesis 1 can only of 24 hours duration. This is simply because the Hebrew word yom is qualified by the word evening and morning. There is also no justification in the Hebrew for inserting a gap between Genesis 1 and 2 to accomodate the millions of years required for the evolutionary theory.

Thus, the age of around 6000 years is about it as far as the Bible itself goes.

Answer

The Holy Bible does not say how old the earth is but 2 verses of the account of creation show that each day was not 24 hours. The account of the 3rd day of creation plainly shows that each day was not 24 hours in length. Then God said, "Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees bearing fruit after their kind, with seed in them, on the earth"; and it was so. And the earth brought forth vegetation, plants yielding seed after their kind, and trees bearing fruit, with seed in them, after their kind; and God saw that it was good. The interesting part of the account is that God did not create the plants in the manner we might assume He did. Instead of creating a world filled with full-grown plants, God actually created seeds and planted those. We understand this from the word "sprout," which refers to God allowing the earth to produce plants through germination (sprouting). The Hebrew word dasha tells us that God used processes identical to what we see on the earth today. Plants spouted, grew to maturity, and produced seeds. As everyone knows it takes years for trees to grow to maturity and produce fruit. And God did not speed up the process because he said "Let the earth sprout". I think the evidence is clear that I may have taken hundreds if not thousands of years for God to create the earth.

Simple Answer:

The Bible never states when the Earth was created. Closely reading Genesis 1, the reader will soon realize the 'already formed' planet is in total darkness and under water. We see then it was already created - the time line is absent so it could have been a moment or billions of years previously. But it also says it was 'tohu and bohu' or roughly empty(void) and formless (vain). Later in Isaiah, we are told God does not create this way (see Isaiah 45:18). Indeed, when God created the universe and Earth in particular, the angels shouted with joy (see Job 38:7).

Genesis is speaking of the 'renewal' of the face of the Earth after some sort of disaster (see Psalm 104:30).

The Mathematical Tabulation concerning the Year of "Adam's Creation" according to the Account of "Moses" (contained in the First Five Books of the Old Testament) is Absolute: 4004 - 4000 BC

---Old Testament Study Manual Vol. 1 Latter Day Saint Edition

This Calculation coincides with Bishop James Ussher (1581 - 1656).

His Result: 4004 BC

Note that this Conclusion Occurred During the Renaissance Era & thus, itself, was amidst MANY Forward Thinking Queries.

The First Latter Day Saint Leader, Joseph Smith, also agreed with the Chronology of Moses & went further a step to Calculate the Age of the Universe according to his Understanding:

And the Following Document agrees, from a "Christian" Perspective, by adding: "Today there are many Christians who accept the Reliability of Geologic Dating, but do not compromise the spiritual and historical inerrancy of God's word."

To this, I would like to add: If God's Word were Truly "Inerrant"-- Moses, as a repeater of "God's Words" would have therefore been "Inerrant", and Bishop Ussher's Chronology of Creation, based on his Calculations on the "Word of God through Moses", would have been Held as Admissible Fact in a Court Decision.

A Court Case Arrives at the Dismissal of Bishop Ussher's Chronology of Creation as Sustainable Truth.

In Short, the Stories of ANY Religion are based in Myths cultivated by 200,000 years of Human History, which is Concluded upon in a More Accurate Manner in the following Scientific Article:

AnswerJames Ussher, Archbishop of Armagh used Old Testament genealogies to calculate that the creation took place in 4004 BCE on the evening of 22nd October. So, if you believe that the act of creation was ex nihilo (out of nothing), as most English translations say, "In the beginning, God created heaven and earth ...", then you can say the Bible says the earth is just over six thousand years old. Some have sought to correct Ussher's figures, making minor adjustments, with one estimate suggesting that creation occurred in 4,040 BCE.

Opinions vary as to how long before Adam the initial act of material creation took place and there are many web sites which discuss the various views. Broadly these can be divided into "Old Earth" and "Young Earth" positions, the former siding with evolutionary, geological and astrophysical theories (which demand billions of years and are continually shifting), and the latter with the plain translation of the Hebrew "Yom" to mean "a Day" as we normally understand the word, and which therefore hold that the earth was created only five days before Adam.

In all these estimates, there is one fatal flaw: the failure to take into account that there are really two creation accounts in Genesis (Genesis 1:1-2:4a and Genesis 2:4bff). Leon R. Kass (The Beginning of Wisdom: Reading Genesis) reminds us that if we are to understand each story on its own terms, we must scrupulously avoid reading into the second story any facts or notions taken from the first, and vice versa. This means that if we are to rely on the genealogies that follow the creation of Adam in the second creation account, as we must, then the definition of "Yom" to mean a day or any other period is irrelevant.

As long ago as the eleventh century CE, the influential Jewish scholar, Rashi, said that Genesis 1:1 should be read, "When God began to create" or "In the beginning of God's creation ". Other modern scholars of Hebrew agree that "In the beginning is incorrect". For example, Robert Alter (Genesis Translation and Commentary) translates the first sentence, more correctly, as "When God began to create heaven and earth, and the water was welter and waste and darkness over the deep and God's breath hovering over the waters ..." The ancient author believed the waters already existed, as did the earth under the water. On this view of the creation story, we do not know how old the earth is, even if all life was created just six thousand years ago.

In summary, the Bible does tell us anything about the age of the earth from the first creation story, and only tells us when the first man, Adam, was created in the second creation story. If we think of the time of Adam as the time of creation, then the world is a little over 6000 years old.

Jewish AnswerThe Tanach doesn't say how old the earth is. In the original language of Hebrew, the word 'yom' is used in the creation story. Although the word yom can be used to describe a 24 hour period, that is not the only definition of the word. In the context of the creation story, the word yom is interpreted to mean a long period of time. Additionally, the Jewish calendar counts from the creation of Adam's soul, the 6 days of creation before this are not counted as they're considered separate.

Please see the related links for a detailed explanation of how the original text is read and interpreted.

Genesis is not an intent to say how old Earth is but how old humans are = 6000 years. However, the most common answer in 2000 years is Adam 5500bc and Adam 5200bc and Adam 4000bc and Jewish Adam 3761bc plus 6000 years to 500 AD and 800 AD and 2000 AD.

Christians can be divided into two groups when it comes to this.

One group is the young-earth creationists, who take a literal interpretation of Genesis and believe the Earth is around 6,000 years old based on Biblical genealogies.

The other group is the old-earth creationists, who accept the scientific evidence that points to the Earth being approximately 4.5 billion years old because they don't interpret Genesis literally.

According to the biblical account... although the earth is much older and was already in existence at the time [see Genesis 1:1-2] -- God then created man approximately 5000 some-odd years ago [due to man's rejection of his Creator, our sense of time has become dreadfully out of sync with God's. So, approximation is the best we can guess], and made man out of the elements that make up the planet -- ["...for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return." - Gen.3:19].

"...Let us MAKE MAN in our image, after our likeness..." (Gen.1:26).

"And the Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there He PUT THE MAN WHOM HE HAD FORMED." (Gen.2:8)

So, according to the Bible [Gen.1:1-2]... the universe and the earth were made, sometime in the distant past, and the earth became a formless mess for who knows how long, and for whatever cause [the creation account doesn't say. {hint: "...there was war in heaven..."}]. And then [after whatever undisclosed in the account period of time], God repaired the earth to support and sustain man in six short 24-hour days -- and MADE MAN in the course of the sixth day.

According to the Bible, approximately 5000-plus years ago... man did't exist. And the next day he did:

"...the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul." (Gen.2:7)

Believe it -- or don't.

Additional Answer:

Archbishop James Ussher, Armagh, Ireland, 17th Century AD, calculated the forming of Adam to 4004 BC (4000 years before Christ's birth). There have been calendar reforms throughout the history of man, the one that seems to have omitted at least 1 year was in the 16th Century, by Pope Gregory's assistant Denis the Little (Dionysus) who omitted the year zero between 1BC and 1 AD. Using Caesars reign as dates, he omitted the 4 years Caesar was called Octavian, however, astronomically this may not matter.

In any event, given the above, the time of man is 4004 BC + 2011 = 6015 less 1 year omitted = 6014. Now if this is correct, then the Biblical interpretation of the 'Reign of Man' to be 6000 years is a bit off - or is it.

If God created Adam in 4004 BC, he was still innocent of any sin as he did not know God's Law yet. Some believe God took an entire calendar cycle to personally teach Adam and let Adam teach Eve. This is 19-21 years. This would make the time of the 1st sin in the Reign of Man was approximately 3983 BC. With this date we calculated 3983 + 2011 = 5994 less 1 year = 5993. That would mean the end-time cycle will soon begin. But that is only an approximation as other events affect this timeline and only God knows when the end will start. The great Sir Isaac newton had spent a lifetime in Scripture and came to the conclusion 2060 AD would be the end.

No one but God knows so we should always be prepared.

The Bible does not state how old the earth is, but does provide a string of genealogies that can be linked together, from Adam down to Moses. Using this and other passages, such as that the Exodus from Egypt occurred 480 years before the fourth year of Solomon's reign, Archbishop Ussher came up with the answer that the earth was created in 4004 BCE, making it about 6016 years old now.

As soon as doubt is cast on those biblical genealogies, the age of the earth changes, and we could easily use Ussher's method to 'prove' that the earth is only around four thousand years old, simply by demonstrating that the human ages from Adam down to the patriarchs were based on numerology, not history.

Now I am intrigued as perhaps never before.

How on Earth can it be "demonstrated" that "the human ages from Adam
down to the patriarchs were based on numerology, not history" ?

This not to deny that they may well exhibit some interesting patterns and relationships,
or even that the probability of these may be small. But how in the world does any of that
demonstrate that the numbers must have been derived or dreamed up to be consistent
with any one thing or another ?
