The traditional age of 33 years is based on the fact that Jesus was born before the death of Herod the Great in 4 BC. He is thought to have begun his public ministry at age 30. Due to the length of ministry described in the gospel records including the number of Passovers, three years are added to give an age at death of 33.

Others find a 'gap' before commencement of ministry after Jesus' Baptism by John. This is due to the likelihood of 33AD as being the year of his crucifixion, which would make him to have been as old as 37.

His birth date is confirmed through Luke's careful recording of an 'anchor event' as many ancient historians of his time did. This event is the taxing under Augustus when Cyrenius (also known as Quirinius) was Governor of Syria for the first time (as distinguished from the second ten years later).

A:

According to The Bible He was about 33 years old. He taught the good word for 3 years. He was born 2009 years ago on the longest night of the year which Christians believe according to the old almanac it was around December 25th.

A:

We do not know for sure the exact age of Jesus when He was crucified, but He was probably 33 years old. Here is the argument. Jesus was baptized which means he was not a "Christian". But the reason He was baptized was to "fulfill all righteousness," (Matt. 3:15); Jesus never mentioned that reason, Matthew was not innocent, so could be wrong. He had to fulfill the legal requirements for entering into the priesthood after the order of Melchizedek (Psalm 110:4; Heb. 5:8-10; 6:20); that would have made Jesus a Jew; not a "Christian god". Priests offered sacrifice to God on behalf of the people. Jesus became a sacrifice for our sin (1 Pet. 2:24; 2 Cor. 5:21); if we would have sinned ; what our sins had to do with Jesus' sacrifice or to any priest. To be consecrated as a priest, Jesus had to be: 1) washed with water - baptism - (Lev. 8:6; Exodus 29:4, Matt. 3:16). 2) Anointed with oil - the Holy Spirit - (Lev. 8:12; Exodus 29:7; Matt. 3:16). Jesus was a Christian god; if he was innocent he need do any such thing. Additionally, He may have needed to be 30 years old, Num. 4:3, "from thirty years and upward, even to fifty years old, all who enter the service to do the work in the tent of meeting." Therefore we can conclude that Jesus began His earthly ministry at the age of 30. Since it went on for 3 1/2 years before Jesus was crucified, it is safe to say that He was 33 at the time of His death

A:

Jesus (the man) was crucified at the age of 33. Jesus was though put on Cross, yet he was delivered in near-dead position.

A:
  • Scholars estimate he was born 2-7 BCE and died 26-36 BCE.
  • Keep in mind, 2,000 years ago the average life-expectancy was less than 20.
A:

He was not 33 years old they don't know exactly what was the age and it don't say that in the bible

A:

Since the Bible is specific about time, Christ would have been 33 1/2 years old when He was crucified, or 33 yrs., 6 mos. Bible is not a sound source of history. The scriptures tell us that He died on Passover, so by using simple math, we can count BACKWARDS 6 mos. from Passover (roughly the middle of March) and determine His date of birth also, roughly the middle of September...Well, the scriptures could be wrong, the are supposed to be written by faulty human beings.

A:

Curiously enough, the Bible doesn't mention a precise age. Luke's gospel says that Jesus was baptized at the age of 30, and various historical documents indicate that He was crucified about 3 years later, giving the traditional age of 33.

A:

To calculate the age of Jesus when He died we firstly need to clarify as much as possible the time of His birth. The census mentioned in Luke 2 fixes Jesus' birth as an obvious starting point prior to the death in 4BC of Herod the Great. The information in the link helps resolve an apparent discrepancy between Luke mentioning that Cyrenius was Governor of Syria at this time and Josephus' mentioning this as being 6AD. We now know that this was his second term and so there is no discrepancy. This would make a difference of around ten years in calculating Jesus' age at death.

The traditional age of around 33 years, as mentioned above, would therefore require a date of death in 29AD.

A:

The year that Jesus died is known. He died in the year 33. In fact, not only is year known, the exact date of Nisan 14, 33 is when he died. Nisan was a month on the Jewish Lunar calender that corresponds to late March and early April on our calender.

Jesus was 33 when he died.

Jesus was 30 years old when He began His ministry and it lasted for three years. So, He was 33 years old when He was crucified.

(* While this is widely supported, some Bible scholars suggest as early an age as 29, or as late as 50, based on other passages.)

As the Scripture states that Jesus was 'about' 30 yrs old when He began His ministry and other Scriptures indicate that it lasted 3 1/2 yrs, then He was at least 33 years old when He was crucified:

Luke 3:23New King James Version (NKJV) The Genealogy of Jesus Christ23 Now Jesus Himself began His ministry at about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, the son of Heli,

The Church has always held that Our Blessed Lord was crucified when He was 33 years of age. As the Church is the only institution which has been around since then, and was right there when it happened, there is absolutely no reason to believe anything else.
