Generally quite reliable, especially when compared to certain Chrysler A/Ts that were known to wear out at 60,000 miles.
But the question is extremely vague. Saab 900 or Saab 9000? Turbo or non-turbo? What mileage? Has the transmission been maintained with regular fluid and filter changes? Is the car driven mainly on the highway or stop-and-go city driving?
There are many variables, and you're asking about a 16 year old vehicle. Some things just wear out.
