You should not punish a newborn for crying. You should investigate and find the reason for the crying. This could be anything from colic, dirty diaper, not being burped correctly after feeding and the list goes on and on. A newborn doesn't cry for no reason and is attempting to communicate in it's limited 'vocabulary.' Never punish a child for anything that is beyond its control and, to a newborn, EVERYTHING is beyond their control.

New mother cat keep crying because she got babies. She wants to keep them closely always.
new England
A new parent should purchase a wipe warmer to help with the babies' crying. The wipe warmer warms the wipe, so the baby will not cry because of the coldness.
Because a child will refuse to be cooperative if you punish them and they will begin to be afraid. Learning something new have to be positive or it will turn into a trauma. You can't punish them for an accident and this is not something they are in control of yet. You don't put a 5yo to drive a car and then punish him when he crash. And you don't want a first-grader in diapers who's in therapy trying to get over his potty-training.

intolerable acts
New-born babies always gain comfort from physical contact with (usually) their parent. They feel secure and protected.
