A1: Good luck trying. I had one shot in 1999 and I still havent had a regular period or been able to get pregnant. I get 3 periods a year and I have been recently diagnosed with endometriosis and Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and although my doctor cant prove it, he suspects it was triggered by taking depo-provera. Two surgeries later and lots of meds, and nothing has changed. I hope everything works out for you though. Good luck.
- A2:
- How long does it take to get it out of your system?? My best friend got the shot a few times and SEVEN years later of trying to conceive is unsuccessful.
- A3.
- YOU CAN BECOME STERILE. I was so mad on behalf of my friend that I did a load of research about this drug and am officially disgusted what women go through for the "convenience" of this anti-conception injection. I feel angry that pharmaceutical companies gloss over very real side-effects.
- A4:
- You can loose your bone density, increase your chances of cervical cancer, migraines, ectopic pregnancy, and anemia, among other things. I recommend reviewing all sides of a drug like this before taking it, not just the information offered by the doctor who will forget your name when you leave the office, or may have personal bias regarding general population trends.
- This is not a safe drug in my opinion.
A5:
I was taking Depo-Provera for 1 yr. It took about 18 months for me to get pregnant. We were trying from about a month after I took my last shot and I started to get frustrated because I thought I was sterile. Now my son will be 5 in August and I'm looking forward to my second child. I think Depo-Provera works differently with every person. It sometimes may cause weight change, hair loss, appetite change, mood swings etc. So if you are thinking about using this drug, PLEASE DO YOUR RESEARCH!!!!!
A6: I took Depo for 2.5 yrs and with in a month of the expiration of my last shot I was pregnant...infact talking to my ob this is not uncommon. This is my second child to be concieved after being on Depo for a prolonged period of time. All birthcontrols come with risks that we are all informed of and can read up on before we take it, the only person to be mad at is yourself. If you do some research the only birth control methods that do not come with the following side effects are condoms...
increase your chances of cervical cancer, migraines, ectopic pregnancy, and anemia...that being said we are off the topic which is
"how soon after taking depo provera can you get pregnant?"I can testify that it can take less than a month.A7: Being on the shot on and off between three pregnancies over the last 6 1/2 years, i have to say it has worked wonderfully for me.
A8:Yes it is true, for you to get pregnant much longer after stop using the depo, and believe me every woman is different! Thats why the depo has different side effects on woman.
For me, a young person who was 17 when i was using it and at 18 when i had stopped taking the depo... After the very last shot it took me after 3months to get pregnant, seriously. (meaning it took 3 or maybe less than 3months for me to get fertile)
I think the reason why i got pregnant much sooner after stopping the depo, was maybe because during the time of when i was using the depo, the way my body and myself had adapted to its drug was not so as pleasant as other women may have had.
I had really really severe bleeding, and it was for very so often after most my injections. My doctor had to try & advised me to start using other alternatives, yet i refused. She explained that the drug is maybe not so effective/suited with my body, or that may not be the case.
Hope this helps others out who may also be thinking of whether depo is good or not good for you, personally i reckon you should not meddle with your body with drugs and contraceptives. I HONESTLY REGRET IT :( use condoms. I was not so mature at the time to realize the consequences of what it might do to your baby in the future if i ever wanted to get pregnant.
Depo could effect the healthyness of your baby in the future if you ever want to get pregnant later on, MAYBE?? or MAYBE NOT?? Who knows?
