Mostly it depends on the organism of the pregnant woman (some contractions begin day and a half before and some don't even have contractions) but usually they occur in less than 20 hours before giving birth.

You are 3 cm dilated will you have your baby soon?

You are already in the first stages of labor. It could become hard labor in a matter of minutes or days. Keep a close eye on things and get to the clinic or hospital (or call your doctor or midwife if you are having a home birth) as soon as thigns begin to change.

Been having a lot of mild contractions 38 weeks pregnant is labor soon?

What you are experiencing is called Braxton-Hicks contractions. It is perfectly normal. It is the body's way of "practicing" for the real thing. As long as there is no constant pressure on the floor of the pelvis or discharge of blood or liquid, the mild contractions you are feeling is not a threat. Your baby will be born when he or she is ready. The B-H contractions do not mean labor will begin any sooner than is proper.

How do you time true labor contractions?

You start the timing at the begining of one contraction until the pain stops, and time how long it lasts. This shows how long the contractions are, but in order to get the correct time apart for each contraction you time from the beginning of one contraction to the beginning of the next. This will give you the correct length of the contractions and the correct time for how far apart the contractions are getting. You need to be sure to keep a timer going, and to write all of the times down as soon as you begin your contractions. Be sure to take this information to your hospital or midwives when you go to give birth, they will need to know the timing. - annonymous (information received via a Pregnancy class in Texas)

Where do contractions happen?

It depends on the woman, and the stage of labor. In my case they felt similar to that aching feeling you get when you smash a finger or toe, but in my abdomen and very extreme. Others say it feels like bad menstrual cramps.

If you had true labor contractions last night and they stopped will they be back soon?

True labor will not usually stop. Labor that stops is, by definition, false labor. False labor is common, especially in a second or third (or fourth, etc.) pregnancy. These contractions, however, are useful in that they help prepare the cervix for labor by softening it, thinning it out, and dilating it. First time moms often begin labor with a long, closed and thick cervix; women who've had a baby before will usually have a softened, somewhat dilated cervix when they start. It's hard to predict when any woman will go into labor. Contractions may be off and on for days before real labor begins. Eat, stay hydrated, and get as much rest as you can until it does.

If you are 38 weeks with first pregnancy contractions 3 minutes apart lasting 70 seconds and dilated at a 2 with 80 effaced will labor come soon after having two cervatals?

If your contractions are three min. apart then you probably already are in labor especially if you are already dilated and 80% effaced. If the contractions aren't regular then you aren't in labor but if it turns out that your not then you will most likely be going into labor really soon.
